A message from the Worshipful Master

GREETINGS FROM THE EAST

Well we have made it to November and 2020 continues to provide no shortage of unpredictability. In a year that has challenged even the smallest of our daily routines, we are reminded that life is anything but predictable. It is understandable if the dramatic changes and exceptional unpredictability of 2020 have caused frustration and anger throughout our country, even among Brethren. While life is not predictable, our character is controllable and as Masons, we have vowed to learn to subdue our passions. We are called to practice temperance and contemplate a unique aspect of this virtue, namely its transferability or value in all aspects of our lives.

Temperance is about balance and self-control, and the Mason who develops self-restraint will benefit from it in all situations.

Temperance does not stop our actions. It makes us stop and think about the actions we take, or reactions we make.

One might argue that, temperance is the root of all other virtues. Practicing temperance has an impact on the successful use of every other virtue and ultimately gives us greater control of our character.

One might argue that temperance is the root of all other virtues. It has an impact on the successful practice of every other virtue and ultimately gives us greater control of our character. It is a virtue that is sorely needed throughout our country during this challenging year.

As we near the end of 2020, if we find ourselves inconvenienced by what is happening, annoyed by someone’s opinion or just aggravated by the unpredictability of life, lets us not be angry but temperate. Practice restraint, act with circumspection and choose the right action. Soon, the good choice will become the natural one and the virtue of temperance will be on display.

LIGHT IN MASONRY

The cancellation of the Oct. 10th One Day Conferral class didn’t stop Manasseh Lodge from accomplishing more light in Masonry. We used that day to hold a “work party” at the Lodge. All of the exterior lights were replaced with high efficiency LED bulbs. Not only do these lights use less energy, they will last four times longer and are 35% brighter than the old bulbs. In addition, a solar powered light was added to illuminate the new square and compasses on the front of the Lodge. On our many trips up the ladder, we also managed to remove three bird nests and several wasp nests from the building.

We finished off the day’s work by removing three trees from the fence line for our neighbor Mrs. Sterns. It required 4 Master Masons, two ladders, crowbars, shovels, a chainsaw and Geometry but we got the job done and Mrs. Sterns was very grateful.

Thank you to Worshipful Brother Phil Sommers, Worshipful Brother Clancy Nidell and Right Worshipful Bill Costis for the help completing these projects!

Brethren, we have an endless list of projects around our Lodge, some big and some small. If you are interested in getting involved, just let me know!

CONGRATULATIONS NEW MASTER MASONS

On October 3rd, Manasseh Lodge hosted the One Day Conferral Class for the 4th Masonic District under the watchful direction of Right Worshipful Pete Jensen DDGM. Many hours were logged by our DIW, Worshipful Brother John Phillips preparing for this event. Strict adherence to COVID safety protocols limited the total number in attendance. Nevertheless, 13 new Master Masons were raised including 2 from Manasseh Lodge: Reza John Nejad and Jeffrey Guin Hayes. They are both top notch men and we are excited to welcome them into the Masonic Fraternity.

We had several Brothers share their superior ritual skills by participating on the degree teams. Brother Joe Martinez, Brother Doug Dulaney, Brother Doyle Meadows, Worshipful Brother Bennett Hart and Right Worshipful Carl Dunn Jr participated in all three degrees and helped make this class an impressive demonstration of our Masonic Ritual.
Well done Brethren!

Sincerely & Fraternally,
Tom Costis
Worshipful Master
