A message from the Worshipful Master

Brethren, I am writing this Trestleboard from the storm ravaged Island of Puerto Rico. As I travel to the different sites, I have a few moments to reflect on the magnitude of the situation here. We should take the time to give our thoughts and prayers to those who have had such tragedy in their lives. Even in the face of such destruction, the people here have demonstrated their resiliency to continue on. The storms have taught them to rely less on some of the everyday conveniences such as cell phones and internet. It is teaching them to give help to those in need and become closer as a family. With any luck, I am hoping to be back for our November Stated.

Thanks to the work of the brethren with our television project, we were able to do the M.M. lecture using them.

Let us recap October a little bit and look back at the awesome events that have occurred. Our Lodge started off the month with the Manassas Fall Jubilee and Child ID Program. which was a spectacular event. The Lodge Brothers teamed up with our youth groups and the Prince William County Sherriff's office to help issue out over 182 I.D. cards. Our partnership with the Sheriff’s Department has a long-standing tradition led by Brother Terry Fearnly, who is always there to make this event successful. Our Rainbow girls came out in force and started working right from the start until the end. We had over 13 girls that hit the streets throughout the day assisting in collecting names, heights, and weights of the children. A special thanks to Preston Hamerick who also was on hand to represent our DeMolay Chapter. These young women and men are truly amazing and work so hard to give back to our Lodge.

Our Lodge has a new Master Mason among our ranks. Brother Steven S. Smith was raised on October 13th. The Brethren did an outstanding job and I am sure it was an event Brother Smith will never forget. I am grateful that we have a strong line of officers and brethren that were able to confer his degree. A special Thank You and Kudos go out to Worshipfuls Jim Scites and Jim Kraut, who were on hand to make this a very memorable degree for Brother Steve. Every Brother on hand is to be commended for their excellent work. So many of our Brethren came out to help celebrate this auspicious occasion.

The Child I.D. Program at the Manassas Fall Jubilee was another successful event. The support we had was incredible and the brethren appreciated the support from our Rainbow Assembly and DeMolay Chapter. The Child ID Program is one small contribution that we show our support for our community. The Annual Halloween Trick-or-Trunk Party was held on October 28th. The Halloween Pam' was another ~eat time for us to spend time as a family. I thank all our appendant bodies for their support and contributions. It has always been my goal to ensure that we make our family and friends part of our lodge to strengthen the bonds between us. I hope this event and others like it will continue to go on after my time in the East.

The 239th Grand Annual Communication of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge, A. F. & A. M. of Virginia, will be held at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa, 12042 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia. The Business Session will commence on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 8:30 a.m.  Exemplification of the Degrees will be held beginning on Wednesday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m. and ending on Thursday, November 9, at 3:00 p.m. The Grand Lodge webpage (LINK) will be updated as additional information becomes available. If planning on staying you can make your reservations online now.

The Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons in Virginia will hold its 210th Grand Annual Convocation at the Tort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center Williamsburg, Virginia on the 17th and 18th of November. Room reservation forms are available on the Grand Chapter webpage (LINK) and must be returned to the hotel no later than November 1. Early reservations are suggested, as the number of rooms is limited. The hotel telephone number is (757)220-2250 (voice) and (757)221-9059 (FAX).

Brethren last month we had the esteemed pleasure of presenting Worshipful Brother Elijah Wes Herrington; Jr. with his 50-Year Masonic Veteran's Award.

The Lodge is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Worshipful Willard A. Jenkins, a 50-year Masonic Veteran who passed to the Celestial Lodge above on October 9th. He will be missed by all those who knew him. We must work on our charity by giving the gift of life through our blood donation program. Brother George Harrington has been leading this program for years and would love to nave the brothers give blood to help out those in need. If interested contact Brother Harrington to find out how you can contribute by either giving blood or assisting in blood drives.

I close this message to emphasize our lodge's theme this year. More than ever we need to remain faithful to our obligations, our country and God. Every Mason has the ability to to be more than a good and honorable man. We need to cultivate ourselves to be "A Force for Good." Celebrate our Country and what we stand for to preserve our Country and our Craft. Learn from our forefathers and teach others these principles. I look forward to seeing each and every one of my brothers at our communications as well as being part of each of our appendant bodies. God Bless and have a beautiful month.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Christopher A. Swihart
