A message from the Worshipful Master

Most Worshipful Grand Lodge, A.F. & M. of Virginia will be held at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa, 12042 West Broad Street. Richmond, Virginia. The Business Session will commence on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. Exemplification of the Degrees will be held beginning on Wednesday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m. and ending on Thursday, November 9, at 3:00 p.m. The Grand Lodge webpage (https://grandlodgeofvirginia.org/grand-annual-communication/) will be updated as additional information becomes available. If planning on staying you can make your reservations online now.

The William Edward Ray, Sr. Area Ritual School is September 15-16. This is another excellent opportunity to see and learn. The lodges from the district win exemplify each of the degrees. Manasseh Lodge No. 182 has the duty of opening a Master Mason Lodge and conferring an Entered Apprentice degree. The Ed Ray School starts on Friday night from 7-9 p.m. On Saturday, the school runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. I encourage all the brethren to attend.

We presented scholarships to five of our Masonic youth last month. The scholarship recipients were Kaitlyn Costis, Rachel Bentz, Sydney Braden, Colin White and Evan Nguyen. Miss Costis was the recipient of the Thomas R. Wickman Scholarship, Miss Bentz received the Floyd Vetter Scholarship and Miss Braden received the Jeff Dunn Scholarship. These individuals have worked hard and are well deserving of these awards.

Destiny Court No. 14 Order of the Amaranth hosted the Official Visit of Honor Lady Virginia Gillikin, Grand Royal Matron of Virginia and Sir Knight W. Larry Cullipher Grand Royal Patron of Virginia. The Grand Official Visitation was also an exchange visit with the Grand Royal Matrons and Patrons from New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The Court has been dark and looks forward to getting back to work this month and continuing their good work.

The changing of seasons is also a changing of the rank and file of our Royal Arch Chapter. Manassas Royal Arch Chapter No. 81 will have is election and installation of officers this month on September 14. The Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons in Virginia will hold its 210th Grand Annual Convocation at the Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center, Williamsburg, Virginia on November 17 and 18, 2017. Room reservation forms are available on the Grand Chapter webpage (http://virginiaroyalarch.org/misc/grand_vocation.php) and must be returned to the hotel no later than November I 2017. Early reservations are suggested, as the number of rooms is limited. The hotel's telephone number is (757) 220-2250 (voice) and (757) 221-9059 (FAX)

Prince William Chapter of DeMolay will also hold its installation of officers on September I 6 at 2:00 p.m. I am proud that our DeMolay Chapter will have an installation of officers. Dad's Wyatt Hamrick and John Stallings, along with advisors and parents, have supported the boys to help them build up to this point. Prince William Chapter will continue to flourish through our support and guidance. Help support our boys as they recruit members which we hope will become part of our fraternity. If you know of any young men that would make a fantastic addition to Prince William Chapter, contact Dad Wyatt Hamrick. The Chapter is also planning to confer Honorary DeMolay Degrees in the spring of 2018. If you are a Master Mason that was not a DeMolay, you can have the degrees conferred on you. Contact Brother Wyatt Hamrick or Worshipful John Stallings if you would like to become a DeMolay.

Grand Worthy Matron and Grand Worthy Patron's official Visit to District 23 is scheduled for September 23 at 2:00 p.m. This will complete all the official visits for the year. We look forward to greeting Sister Marcia Perry Grand Worthy Matron and Brother Donald Strehle, Grand Worthy Patron into our lodge along with all the other sisters and brothers from the district. Our Worthy Matron hosted a wonderful Flamingo Party for members of Wimodausis Chapter No. 106. We had over 35 people attend and know all had a fun time.

If interested in having flags flown in memory of someone, please see the Lodge Secretary or myself. The cost is $200.00 for three months.

We must remain faithful to our obligations, our country and God. Every Mason has the ability tq be more than a good and honorable man. We need to cultivate ourselves to be "A Force For Good." Celebrate our Country and what we stand for in order to preserve our Country and our Craft. Learn from our forefathers and teach others these principles. I look forward to seeing each and every one of my brothers at our communications as well as being part of each of our appendant bodies. God Bless and have a beautiful month.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Christopher A. Swihart
