A message from the Worshipful Master

August has slowed down as we enjoy the fun with our families for summer. Even though the lodge and our appendant bodies are not quite as busy we still have some key events scheduled for this month. Take time to spend with yours and our family during this month and continue to live up to our Masonic principles and values.

Most Worshipful V. Stuart Cook will make his official visit to Districts 2, 3 and 4 on August 12th with arrival time at 10 a.m. and eating at noon.  This is not a tiled meeting but is done in conjunction with the District 2 picnic. All family members are encouraged to attend to meet with Most Worshipful Cook, Lady Barbara and the Grand family. The event is outside and will have food, entertainment and fun for all who attend. This is also a wonderful time to meet our Brethren and family from not only our district but the other brethren from districts 2 and 3. Contact us if you intend to come so we can keep the committee informed of the number of attendees.

Last month we conferred the Past Master degree for Brother Thomas Costis. The lessons learned in this degree will no doubt leave a lasting impression for him but has also provided him some valuable lessons that will help him when he continues in line toward the East. We also conferred the Fellow Craft degree for Brother Steven Smith. We thank Brother Awan for his work in instructing Brother Smith and look forward to seeing him in lodge soon. Our District class will be on August 16th at Mt. Carmel Lodge No. 133. This month during lodge classes, we will focus on the Master Mason degree as well as working with Brother Phil Sommers for his Warden’s certificate. As always, the brethren are welcome to keep proficient in the degree work.

We are proud to present scholarships this month to five of our Masonic youth. The scholarship recipients are Kaitlyn Costis, Rachel Bentz, Sydney Braden, Colin White and Evan Nguyen. Miss Costis is the recipient of the Thomas R. Wickman scholarship, Miss Bentz will receive the Floyd Vetter scholarship and Miss Braden to receive the Jeff Dunn scholarship. These young individuals have worked hard and are well deserving of these awards. Come out to celebrate their success with us.

Destiny Court No. 14 Order of the Amaranth will host the official visit of Honor Lady Virginia Gillikin, Grand Royal Matron of Virginia and Sir Knight W. Larry Cullipher, Grand Royal Patron of Virginia. The official visit is scheduled for August 26 at 2:00 p.m. This Grand official visitation is also an exchange visit with the Grand Royal Matrons and Patrons from New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Dinner will follow the tiled meeting. RSVP by August 18
th to Honor Lady Sue Riggle at Sriggle@gmail.com.

Manassas Royal Arch Chapter No. 81 did a fund raiser last month by serving the joint communication between Fauquier Chapter No. 25 and Warren Chapter No. 5. Our Chapter prepared a steak dinner to raise money for their scholarship fund. The Chapter will also present scholarships to Ariel Phillips and Monica Noffsinger.

Manasseh Lodge welcomed Right Eminent Grand Commander, Sir Knight Roy B. Henderson as part of District 3’s official visit.  The Commanderies of Turner Ashby Commandery No. 35, Piedmont Commandery No. 26, Arlington Commandery No. 29 and Old Dominion Commandery No. 11 did an excellent job receiving the Right Eminent Henderson. We welcome Sir Knight Henderson into our lodge on his official visit along with the members of District 3.

Prince William Chapter of the DeMolay finished up their Conclave last month. They had five members attend with three adults. It has been a long time since the Chapter had a large representation at Conclave. The boys also supported the DeMolay Legion of Honor Investitures ceremony George Washington National Masonic Memorial on July 9
th. The Chapter will also hold its installation of officers in September. I am proud that our DeMolay Chapter will have an installation of officers. With the support and direction of Dad’s Wyatt Hamrick, John Stallings, advisors and parents, Prince William Chapter has grown from one member to nine. Our continued support needs to be given to the boys as they recruit members which we hope will become part of our fraternity. If you know of any young men that would make a fantastic addition to Prince William Chapter, contact Dad Wyatt Hamrick.

Our Rainbow Girl Assembly No. 13 finished a busy month with Grand Assembly and installation for the new term. At Grand Assembly, The ladies from Manassas won an overwhelming amount of awards, most notably Ms. Zoey Nash for winning the Rose Lecture competition, and Brother Tom Costis for winning the Lambskin Apron Lecture competition. Also, three of our ladies will hold Grand Stations in the Grand Assembly this coming year, with many more selected to be Grand Representatives and Flag Bearers.  Of note, our Senior Warden, Worshipful Brother Clancy Nidell, was selected to be the 2017-2018 State Rainbow Dad for the Commonwealth of Virginia.   Our new Worthy Advisor, Ms. Gigi Costis, held a successful installation on July 22nd, and many of the Girls were installed in new stations for the very first time.  Our assembly has accomplished quite a bit this year with their ritual work, membership and fund raising.

Grand Worthy Matron and Grand Worthy Patron’s official visit to District 23 is scheduled for September 23 at 2:00 p.m. This will complete all the official visits for the year. We look forward to greeting Sister Marcia Perry, Grand Worthy Matron and Brother Donald Strehle, Grand Worthy Patron into our lodge along with all the other sisters and brothers from the district. Our Worthy Matron has scheduled a Flamingo Party on August 6th for members Wimodausis Chapter No. 106 to have some fun with the Eastern Star family.

We must also work on our charity by giving the gift of life through our blood donation program.  Brother George Herrington has been leading this program for years and would love to have the brothers give blood to help out those in need. If interested, contact Brother Harrington to find out how you can contribute by either giving blood or assisting in blood drives.

If interested in having flags flown in memory of someone, please see the Lodge Secretary or myself. The cost is $200 for three months.

We must remain faithful to our obligations, our country and God. Every Mason has the ability to be more than a good and honorable man.  We need to cultivate ourselves to be “A Force for Good.” Celebrate our Country and what we stand for in order to preserve our Country and our Craft. Learn from our forefathers and teach others these principles. I look forward to seeing each and every one of my brothers at our communications as well as being part of each of our appendant bodies.  God Bless and have a beautiful month.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Christopher A. Swihart
