A message from the Worshipful Master

June brings to us the full bloom of life. In this month, we celebrate the Feast of Saint John the Baptist. John the Baptist teaches us that we should be firm to our convictions of right and wrong and stand up for these principles. We need to be characters of our Craft and represent the obligations we have taken. In the words of Most Worshipful V. Stuart Cook, we are to be “A Force for Good.”

Our lodge registered a fraternal visit in May to Henry Lodge No. 57 which had an official visit for Most Worshipful V. Stuart Cook. This was a memorable Stated Communication with Most Worshipful Cook’s words of wisdom and guidance. Henry Lodge also had Worshipful George Washington’s bible and gavel. The brothers also presented a 60 year veterans pin to a very grateful brother.

Our traditional Strawberry Night has come and gone at Manasseh Lodge No. 182. We welcomed Most Worshipful V. Stuart Cook, his wife Barbara and several Grand Line officers. I thank all the appendant bodies for assisting us to make this a special night for Most Worshipful Cook and our lodge. Most Worshipful Cook was quite surprised with his gifts that were presented by our DeMolay Chapter and Rainbow Assembly.

June has several key events happening this month. On June 3rd, we are working with the Prince William County Sheriff’s office on the Child ID program. The Child ID program is an important part of our interaction with the community. We assist the deputies to provide a photo identification for children that can be used for emergency purposes. This program is heavily stressed and is well endorsed by the Grand Lodge of Virginia. If you would like to come out and assist as well as represent Manasseh Lodge No. 182 in our community, come out anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. We really could use the help on this long day.

On June 10, Worshipful John Mitchell, District 4 District Education Officer, will host the Subordinate Line Officer Training (SLOT). SLOT is very important training for the upcoming line officers and their development. During this training, we will cover the responsibilities of each of the elected and appointed line officers. Some of the other information provided will be key events of our future Worshipful Masters need to consider when planning for their year. This is a district event but all brothers are more than welcomed to attend to increase their light in Masonry.

District class will be held at Acacia Lodge No. 16. Our lodge is responsible for the Senior Deacon position. Class starts at 7:00 p.m. and is open to all Master Masons. District class is always another great venue that we come together as a district to improve our skills in Masonry.

The suspense for the Manasseh Lodge No. 182 scholarship program has past. The scholarship committee will be reviewing the submittals and will begin notifying the awardees next month. It is always an honor to present these scholarships to our deserving youth.

Prince William Chapter of the DeMolay had a great night on their cook off contest and corn hole competition on May 6.  The boys raise $377 to help offset their costs to Grand Conclave. The true winners of the cook off were all the guests that attended. There were over 30 main entrees, side dishes and desserts. The Chapter is growing with the addition of two new members to their ranks. Last year we had an open house with a few boys and now have nine. To increase their proficiency and comradery, the Chapter will have a sleep over starting on June 10. If you know of any young men that would make a fantastic addition to Prince William Chapter, contact Dad Wyatt Hamrick.

Our Rainbow Girl Assembly No. 13 also were busy in May with their Mother’s Day Tea program and Frank Sinatra night. Manassas Rainbow Assembly continues to do magnificent work supporting us and our Masonic families. We are proud to have them with us and hope the assembly continued success. Special thanks for the Worthy Advisor Vanessa Hamrick with the words of encouragement she has given to her assembly.

Wimodausis Chapter No 106 Order of the Eastern Star will have an initiation practice on June 10. The chapter will initiate Brother Eric Sommers into the Order. We will be proud to welcome Brother Eric into our ranks. I also want to give thanks to Worthy Matron Tammy Swihart and the sisters and brothers that supported us for Strawberry Night. The chapter prepared the dinner, dessert and decorated the lodge for this special night.

We must also work on our charity by giving the gift of life through our blood donation program.  Brother George Herrington has been leading this program for years and would love to have the brothers give blood to help out those in need. If interested, contact Brother Harrington to find out how you can contribute by either giving blood or assisting in blood drives.

If interested in having flags flown in memory of someone, please see the Lodge Secretary or myself. The cost is $200 for three months.

We must remain faithful to our obligations, our country and God. Saint John the Baptist led his life being firm to his beliefs and calling out those to do not live up to these standards. As we celebrate the Feast of Saint John the Baptist this month, we must be wise and extend our knowledge and experience to those around us. If we are to prepare for the hardships and trials that may come, we must be a “Force for Good.” We must be Free Masons. I look forward to seeing each and every one of my brothers at our communications as well as being part of each of our appendant bodies.  God Bless and have a beautiful month.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Christopher A. Swihart
