A message from the Worshipful Master

May is dedicated to memorials of our service members. Since the beginning of our great country, many have made the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefields while other faithfully serve their country for the freedoms we now enjoy today. During my career, I had to suffer through the loss of two comrades whose name will forever be engrained into my memories. I will never forget the sacrifices each of my brothers in arms made. Take the time to fly your flag everyday with pride and joy as a salute to our members of our military and the principles of their obligations.

May will busy but, an enjoyable month. Most Worshipful V. Stuart Cook will be in District 4 two times this month. Not only will Most Worshipful Cook be at Manasseh Lodge No. 182 for Strawberry Night but he will also be at Henry Lodge No. 57 on May 9th at 7:30 p.m. I welcome all Master Masons to come out and see our Grand Master at these events.
Strawberry Night is nearing again at Manasseh Lodge No. 182. This year we will celebrate our annual tradition by welcoming Most Worshipful V. Stuart Cook. The event will exemplify Grand Master’s Cook’s theme of “Free Masonry: A Force For Good.” Our Eastern Star Chapter, Wimodausis No. 106 is preparing dinner. All our appendant bodies are contributing for the event with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. on May 20th.  We welcome all our family and friends to come out join us with Most Worshipful Cook.

Our line officers are doing an amazing job of mastering their current chairs but also are advancing their skills and knowledge of learning the positions two chairs ahead. These Master Masons are exemplifying the term of searching for more light.  Their dedication shined at the C. A. Sinclair Area Ritual School when Manasseh Lodge No. 182 took home the Right Worshipful Rawl award for the best ritualist. This month the District 4 class will be held at Henry Lodge No. 57 on May17th. We also have our lodge classes on Mondays except for May 29th. We hope to see you there to make our education a more memorable experience.

The Easter party at our lodge was another magnificent event for family and friends. We had over 50 family and friends in attendance. The kids were able to fill their buckets with plenty of eggs. Thanks for the work that Brothers Joe Martinez, Tom Costis, Doyle Meadows and Phil Sommers did in the planning and coordinating. I started this event four years ago in hopes that it will continue as a lodge tradition to give back to our families. With the these acts of kindness and dedication, I am sure our brothers will sustain it for future generations.

We must also work on our charity by giving the gift of life through our blood donation program.  Brother George Herrington has been leading this program for years and would love to have the brothers give blood to help out those in need. If interested, contact Brother Harrington to find out how you can contribute by either giving blood or assisting in blood drives.

The deadline for the Manasseh Lodge No. 182 scholarship program is approaching fast. If you known of one of our Masonic youth looking for their collegiate support, have them pick up an application at the lodge or go online to our website to download it. Applications must be received by or postmarked by 1 June to be considered.

Prince William Chapter of the DeMolay is having a cook off contest and corn hole competition on May 6.  The corn hole competition will start at 4:00 p.m. and the dinner at 6:00 p.m. You can enter the cooking contest or pay for dinner. The boys are charging $15 for adults and $5 for children. The funds raised will help support the boys to go DeMolay Conclave in July. Contact Dad Hamrick at princewilliamdemolay@gmail.com for more information.

Our Rainbow Girl Assembly No. 13 will host two events this month. On May 7th, the girls will have a Mother’s Day Tea and program. This program will honor the mothers on their special holiday. As part of their fund raising to help the girls cover some of their costs for their trip to Grand Assembly, they will have their Frank Sinatra night May 13th between 5-8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults. See one of our Rainbow girls.

If interested in having flags flown in memory of someone, please see the Lodge Secretary or myself. The cost is $200 for three months.

We must remain faithful to our obligations, our country and God if we wish to live free in this great country. Masonry is founded on solid principles of faith and morality. If we walk by and turn a blind eye to something we know is wrong, we have set a new standard. Continuing on this path is how the troubles we now face in the world. I ask that everyone put on their armor of God to do the right thing. Taking one step in the right direction will have us running the paths of a clean and prosperous life. I look forward to seeing each and every one of my brothers at our communications as well as being part of each of our appendant bodies.  God Bless and have a beautiful month.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Christopher A. Swihart
