A message from the Worshipful Master

GREETINGS FROM THE EAST

September is now here and we are in the slow period of the Masonic year. We have done a lot of fun activities as well as supported the growth of our Craft. Much work still has to be done for the next four months, but look forward to each day in order to build on our foundations and make our family stronger.

At our September Stated Communications, we will take nominations and elect a new Senior Warden. To ensure your voice is heard on the election and installation of this key position, come out and cast your vote.

Our Program for the evening will be presented by Worshipful William Baumbach on the Masonic Home of Virginia. Worshipful Baumbach always has a very informative presentation on MAHOVA, on its history and mission.

The William Edward Ray, Sr. Area Ritual School will be held on September 23-24. This is another excellent opportunity to see and learn. The lodges from the District will exemplify each of the degrees. Manasseh Lodge No. 182 has the duty of the Fellow Crafts in the Master Mason Degree, 2nd Section. The Ed Ray School will be held on Friday night from 7-9 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. I encourage all the brethren to attend.

As we prepare for the upcoming Masonic year with our line officer preparations, our practices will have the brethren occupy the next chair and focus on the Entered Apprentice and Fellow Craft degrees. Our practices are key to our ritual success. The practices are open to all the brethren to learn and grow with us and I encourage everyone to attend.

We conferred the Master Mason degree on August 20th for Brother Michael Thornton. Manasseh Lodge raised Brother Thornton to the sublime degree of Master Mason at the Alexandria Scottish Rite Temple. It was an impressive night for Brother Thornton as the degree was conferred in full regalia.

Manasseh Lodge No. 182 presented seven scholarships on scholarship night. This year we had nine applicants that had impressive resumes, but unfortunately, we could not award a scholarship to all. We awarded scholarships to Lauren Mandaville, Evan Ngyen, Rachel Bentz, Monica Noffsinger, Issac Noffsinger, Abigail Holbrook, and Conner Lane. The Worshipful Thomas R. Wickman Scholarship Award was given to Evan Ngyen. Worshipful Wickman would have been proud of not only Evan, but all of the applicants. It was delightful to have Mrs. Susan Wickman in attendance for this scholarship presentation.

Manassas Rainbow Assembly No. 13 attended the Supreme Rainbow Assembly in Providence, Rhode Island, last month. It was an honor for them to see a friend of ours, Mrs. Sue Rennagel, installed as Supreme Mother Advisor. These girls continue to represent not only Virginia Rainbow, but also carry with them the support of Manasseh Lodge provides them. They have done an excellent job of preparing our dinners for the July and August Stated Communications as well as provided service projects for the lodge such as cleaning and landscaping. These girls support us when ever asked because they know we care them and support them.

Prince William Chapter Order of DeMolay is up and running again. The boys are doing a great job in learning their ritual. We will again be meeting on the second and fourth Wednesday every month. It is great to have the Chapter again meeting in our lodge and to see these young men take such an interest in their craft. In order to promote DeMolay, we will have another open house before the September 14th meeting. The Chapter is growing, but still looking for young men between ages 11 to 21 to join. It is a great opportunity for these young men to grow and they will need our mentorship and guidance. We still need an adult advisor to work with the group. If interested, you can fill out the application and take the training online at https://escribe.demolay.org/signup. Also, feel free to contact Worshipful John Stallings or myself if interested in being an advisor so that we can provide guidance and support for the Prince William Chapter.

Manassas Royal Arch Chapter No. 81 will have its election and installation of officers at their September Concovation. We look forward to Worshipful Clancy Nidell as he assumes the East as High Priest. I look forward to working with Brother Clancy as High Priest. Many thanks to Excellent Rob McDaniel for his service to the Chapter and the Lodge this year. The 209th Annual Grand Convocation is November 17-19 at the Fort Magruder Hotel & Conference Center in Williamsburg. For more information, go to http://www.virginiaroyalarch.org

Our year so far has been one of many joys and also testing of our character. I have promised to keep the values of our profession, but also to make our families part of our craft. We are doing great in promoting the tenets of our institution. We must continue to be better than we were the day before in order to make our family, community and world a better place. God Bless and have a beautiful month.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Christopher A. Swihart
Worshipful Master
